hmmm... good question... I dont know how one is more important than the other - but often times one is different than the other... reality can be very different from what the perception about a certain thing is... in that case perception is what really makes the impression... and not reality?
Reality is more important to me, because that is what I have to deal with. Perception is what others will deal with.
However, if you are going to be in the public eye a lot (e.g. politicians, brandnames, etc) or if you want to spend your life trying to make others jealous of you, perception could be more important.
Well... a philosopher will argue that reality itself is a perception :) ... I guess, for any given issue everyone has a perception of reality (complete or incomplete). Sometimes, you might want someone to have a particular perception (accurate or perhaps inaccurate). In that sense, the question is how important is it for you that the particular person (or group or everybody in general) has the particular perception. Perhaps, also worth considering is how much influence you have on the perception of these people.
Or perhaps you meant is as the "red pill - blue pill" question :)
Perception is reality. I dont think there is a distinction between the two. I think the question you want to ask is, "Is other people's perception as important as my perception?"
